Down Dog!

TGI Wednesday! I love Wednesday because it is my yoga day. I look forward to it all week and even if I'm completely ignoring my body's need for exercise, I do yoga. After 3 years I must say I wish I was better at yoga but that isn't the point, I know. Sometimes I think it does more for my mind than anything so in the end, if I never get my head on the floor, oh well.

I read Scrumpy's Baker today and it really got me thinking about why I sabotage myself. I sometime think I deny I even do it but hell, we all do! My mirror is proof I do. I lost my momentum while on vacation with my hubby and kids visiting his family. They couldn't get why I cared what I put in my mouth. Why organic? Why not McYucks? Why exercise every day? Why not dessert at every meal? So after being watched and questioned I stopped explaining and just gave in to their madness! I was furious with myself for letting them weaken my resolve but they weren't proud of me or encouraging - just the opposite. So instead of sticking to it and simply doing what I knew to be right, I allowed them to pressure me. Now, reading this it sounds sad really - what, am I 5 and can't stick up for myself? Next time, I go in with a plan of action and instead of justifying myself, I need to just be me. Ah, wisdom, that sneaking snake!

Tonight for supper is Turkey cranberry sausage (delicious!) brown rice and veggies. I work till 11:30 pm so I think a latte may be in order tonight.

Did you eat well today too? Good work...

Happy Earth-day Birthday!

Good for us. Good for the earth!

Today we did just that. Walked our youngest to preschool. Walked home. Had a yummy pb and honey sandwich with apple slices for lunch (organic of course). Took our recycling in - the boys love hearing the glass smash in the bins. Went to the dentist... hmm... not exactly green but required. Made beef barley soup for supper. A great day.

I have friends who love soup (you know who you are :-) I love soup too. Below is a recipe from the Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook that I've been making for a while and have adjusted to what our family likes.

10 oz boneless round steak, cut into 1" cubes
1/2 cup pearl barley
6 cups water
2 carrots, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp fennel seed
1/8 tsp black pepper
1 cup mushrooms

Brown meat in skillet.
In large pot, bring water, pearl barley and meat to boil. Skim off any foam. Then add carrot, celery, onion, salk, fennel and pepper. Simmer covered for 1.5 hours. Add mushrooms at the end
and cook for 15 min. more. Enjoy.

My journey to regain the fitness level I had a year ago is well set out. I ate great today and I feel great today. For three years I followed my trainer without question and achieved 14% body fat - a well earned shopping spree followed. About 10 months ago I put my head in hole and ignored all that I'd learned and figured I could maintain without the work. Yes, I hear the moans and nodds of sympathetic agreement. My clothes just don't fit the same and to be bluntly honest, some don't fit. My JCrew pants mock me from the side of the closet every day. Well not for long, honey! I set my next training session and body composition (aka: the calipers from hell) for June 2nd. I will be well on my way and will look forward to charting my progress and enjoying the ride. Okay, maybe not enjoying but proudly working off the butt that doesn't currently fit in the super cute JCrew pants.

Today is new day...

This is my new challenge. Blogging. Hmm..... let me begin...

I've read so many blogs - okay, I've stalked many blogs. I get obsessed with reading about other people and their successes, challenges, triumphs and mucky parts. I keep thinking to myself, "That would really motivate me to stay on my track. That would truly make me more accountable to myself!" And then I procrastinate. I lose focus. I run a bit to be honest. Seemingly I think life is a game of tag where I need to keep moving or keep chasing. Some work there is obvious but everyone must start somewhere. Here is mine.

My mind seems to work in random ways. I go down a road and can't seem to stay in my own damn lane! And watch out because there are times when I don't even signal! My goal here is to stop cutting myself off, merge nicely and enjoy the drive.

Now I'm sitting here listening to my two wonderful boys (ages 3 and 5) knowing I have a matter of minutes - or seconds - before I must abandon my newly found voice and get on with the day.

So, here are my intentions of sharing what I have yet dared to share. My journey to staying health, active and motivated to stay fit. My never ending desire to learn more about being a great mom and partner to my wonderful husband and kids. To help them learn about being green, wholistic and heathly citizens of our planet. And to shed my mom-clothes and reveal my true self. I know, I know - but seriously , if our goals aren't our dreams then why bother. I will bother and I will become.... me!
